Social competence impairments are among the most prevalent and persistent issues that individuals may face after brain injury or brain surgery. Ineffective social skills can be a barrier to a satisfying social life and success in the workplace. Group Interactive Structured Treatment (GIST), developed by Lenore Hawley, LCSW, CBIST, and Jody Newman, M.A., CCC-SLP, addresses the cognitive, communicative and emotional/behavioral skills and components of social competence.

This 1 1/2 hour workshop, which includes lunch, will introduce adults who had childhood hemispherectomy and high-functioning teens to an overview of key social skills and help them develop social goals.  Participants will practice their skills in the informal setting of lunch service.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SPACE IS LIMITED.  YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS SESSION AHEAD OF TIME. PARENT/CAREGIVERS MAY JOIN, BUT WE ENCOURAGE INDEPENDENT PARTICIPATION BY ADULTS WHO HAD CHILDHOOD HEMISPHERECTOMY AND HIGH-FUNCTIONING TEENS ONLY.
